Being around family can be burdensome. Helping the least among us can be burdensome. Spending time in Adoration of our Lord can be burdensome. Am I to take the feeling of burden to be an indicator of value or a lack thereof? I think not.

Getting high and drunk doesn’t feel burdensome. Binge-watching TV shows doesn’t feel burdensome. Watching porn and masturbating doesn’t feel burdensome. But what value comes from them besides pleasure? Nothing.

The aforementioned activity may feel burdensome, but it bears great fruit. Perhaps my reaction to feeling burdened should be to engage in the activity, knowing it is beneficial for me, despite the feeling.

Just maybe.
